Katana
by Higo Kanehiro. It is done as a Sadamune Utsushimono (copy) and
the mei reads as such" Higo no Kuni Ju Akamatsu Taro Kanehiro
Saku" Ura mei "Hinoe - Ne Nen I chi Gatsu Kichi Hi"
Sword is very wide with nice Soshu horimono. Horimono is very expensive
when ordered on a new sword. One side has a Soshu "Rendai"
with what is known as "Hatahoko" or flag pole that is
also a spear. The other side has "Tsume" or what are known
as firetongs with gomabashii hi. This is very traditional Koto period
carving by the Soshu School and used before by Sadamune. The length
of this blade is a long 29.5" (75cm) and is extremely wide
(1.4"). The hamon is a very nice Choji midare with lots of
ashi and yo. There is large kinsuji in places, (Kanehiro was very
adept at kinsuji), accompanied with lots of smaller kinsuji running
across the ashi throughout the hamon. The boshi is very spectacular
with lots of gunome ashi, very well shaped and healthy. The blade
is in a professional Japanese polish with a very special shirasaya
with the small wood bands to add strength. The habaki is a nice
Shonai styled solid silver style. For those that want a sword that
has it all. |
